Lesson 11: Closing the Sale and Billing Counter SOP
Back to: Customer Service Excellence: The GUIDE Way
The final moments decide how the customer remembers the visit. Guide them through checkout efficiently, explain the warranty and exchange policy, and say goodbye warmly.
Finalising the sale (sales staff)
When you notice buying signals, close the sale by asking.
Once confirmed, carry the items to the cash counter: “Let me take these to the cash counter for you.”
Ask one final time if they need anything else: “Would you like to check some of our other categories?”
At the cash counter (cashier)
Make sure all products have been brought to the counter. Wrap them quickly and neatly.
Engage: talk with the customer while billing. “I hope you enjoyed your visit to our store today.”
Reinforce their choice: confirm the items and congratulate them. “Sir, reconfirming your purchase items…”
Payment: “Sir, which mode of payment will you be using today?”
Last add-on: “We have a travel lock that can keep your baggage safe during travel.”
Policy mention: “Sir, let me inform you about our exchange policy.”
Final closing and farewell
Hand over the card, bill and products with both hands.
Ask for feedback on the products and the shopping experience.
Thank the customer and invite them back: “Thank you, Sir, for shopping with us. Please do visit us again.”
Follow up where appropriate, e.g. for a custom order or out-of-stock item.
Google review process
| Rule | |
|---|---|
| Moment | Ask at the end of the service interaction, never during billing. |
| Medium | Point to the store’s QR code. Don’t hand over a store iPad. |
| Messenger | The staff member who served the customer should ask, naturally. |
| Message | Ask them to review the store and the collection, not personal service. |
Farewell phrases
| Situation | What to say |
|---|---|
| Bought a purse for daily use | “Thanks for coming in today. This purse will be a great addition to your wardrobe.” |
| First-time visitor, just browsing | “Hope you’ll come by again the next time you’re nearby.” |
| Very satisfied buyer | “I’ll let you know when the new colours and styles arrive. Do come and check them out.” |
